The University Orchestra is presenting its annual Family Orchestra Concert – it’s a one-hour interactive concert for all ages, lots of fun and it’s free admission!
The annual Family Orchestra Concert will be presented by the University Orchestra with conductor Susan Deaver on Tuesday, February 25 at Staller Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. Free Admission! This one-hour interactive concert is an annual favorite of the Stony Brook community and their families. This year’s theme – “Orchestral Rhythms!”– features music that captivates the listener and displays the wide variety of orchestral sounds of the strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion in a kaleidoscope of rhythms along with musical elements of dynamics, driving and smooth tempos and moods. Featured music will include Alfred Reed’s A Festival Prelude, Jerry Brubaker’s That Gershwin Rhythm, Vaughan Williams’ March from English Folk Songs, LeRoy Anderson’s “The Typewriter”, Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2 and Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo. Featured soloist is Alicja Paruch who will perform as marimba soloist in Ney Rosauro Marimba Concerto. For additional information contact Staller Center at 631.632.ARTS. The University Orchestra is a 70-member ensemble of undergraduate students at Stony Brook University. The University Orchestra presents a series of concerts each year at Staller Center. Susan Deaver, conductor of the University Orchestra, has conducted orchestras in the United States, Europe and Asia and is a member of the music faculty at Stony Brook University. In 2016 she completed her 25th year as Music Director & Conductor of the North Shore Symphony Orchestra and has conducted Composers Reading Sessions with the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and numerous festivals in New York and New Jersey.
